Waldemar Grant Hansen tested engine designs in the hills
above Pasadena, leading to the successful Tourist automobile and Pasadena/Altadena
Hill Climb events of 1906-1909. This photo shows Hansen in 1902 aboard
his own creation which he used as a testbed, earning him distinction as
Los Angeles' first hot rodder.
